The joy that comes from loving and being loved, the pleasure possible with sexuality, and the good feeling that results from self-acceptance and self-respect are hallmarks of our human experience. They are rooted in bodily sensations and not merely mental constructs. For many of us, though, our body is and has been a source of bad feelings such as depression, anxiety, pain, shame, self-hatred and violations. Chronic physical tensions lead to feeling bad in and about our bodies, rather than to the positive experiences we long for. By freeing the body, and understanding our experience, in the context of a safe therapeutic relationship we can develop stronger boundaries, release shame & guilt, restore healthy self-expression and have more capacity to enjoy the best of what life offers.

Participants will learn:

  1. Identify 3 key techniques to use towards increasing the capacity for love, sexuality and self-respect in a person
  2. Describe the value of working directly with the body as well as the mind in therapeutic settings
  3. Define the role of chronic physical tension rooted in childhood experience as a source of depression, anxiety, addictions, PTSD, etc.
