New Social/Emotional Learning Initiative: What You Need to Know
with The MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education [DESE]

 

Keynote Speaker: Anne Gilligan, Director,
Office of Student and Family Support, DESE

PANEL DISCUSSION:

Following the keynote presentation there will be a panel discussion on SEL by other experts and practitioners of SEL.

About the Keynote Speaker: Anne Gilligan is the Director of the Office of Student and Family Support at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. She provides professional development on a wide variety of comprehensive health-related issues as well as proven effective strategies for creating a safe and healthy school climate.

 

Description: This session will provide an overview of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s initiative on Social Emotional Learning. The Guidelines on Implementing Social and Emotional Learning K-12 will be discussed along with strategies for enhancing the role of School Social Workers/Adjustment Counselors in school-wide social emotional learning programs.

 

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will improve their understanding of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Social, Emotional Learning initiative.
  2. Participants will increase their awareness of the Guidelines for Implementing Social and Emotional Learning K-12.
  3. Participants will identify ways to support students proficiency in demonstrating social, emotional learning competencies.

 

Approved for 5.5 CEs for Social Workers. LMHC application has been submitted.
